What Are Clear Aligners?

Clear aligners are a series of transparent, removable trays that gradually shift your teeth into alignment. Each set is worn for 1–2 weeks before progressing to the next in the series. At Clinton Dental Group, we use advanced digital scanning technology to create a detailed, personalized treatment plan.

Your orthodontic journey begins with a consultation to determine if Invisalign or Dandy is right for you. If you're a candidate, we’ll take digital impressions and start designing your custom aligners. Regular check-ins with Dr. Dadouris and our team will ensure everything stays on track and your results come quickly and comfortably.

Clear Aligner FAQs

  • How long does clear aligner treatment take on average?

    • Treatment time varies based on your starting bite and how consistently aligners are worn. For most mild to moderate cases we treat at Clinton Dental Group, clear aligner treatment typically ranges from 6 to 14 months.

  • What orthodontic issues can clear aligners treat?

    • Clear aligners can be a great option for patients who want a discreet way to straighten their teeth. We commonly treat mild to moderate crowding and spacing. During your consultation, we will confirm whether aligners are appropriate for your goals and your bite.

  • How often are clear aligner checkups?

    • After your initial bonding appointment, follow up visits are typically scheduled every 5 to 6 weeks. These appointments let us monitor progress, confirm everything is tracking properly, and check oral hygiene during treatment.

  • What affects the cost of clear aligners and will insurance cover them?

    • The cost is typically around $4,000, though it can vary depending on case complexity. Some dental insurance plans may contribute up to $3,000 toward orthodontic benefits. Clear aligners are FSA and HSA eligible, and we offer payment plans.

  • How many hours per day do I need to wear aligners?

    • For best results, aligners should be worn 20 to 22 hours per day, removing them only to eat, drink anything other than water, and brush and floss.

  • Do attachments or “buttons” hurt?

    • Some patients need small tooth colored attachments to help guide tooth movement. It is normal to feel mild pressure or tenderness when starting aligners or switching to a new set, especially during the first few days. If anything feels sharp or irritating, let us know so we can help.

  • Can I eat with aligners in?

    • You should remove aligners to eat to help prevent damage and reduce the risk of food getting trapped against your teeth. You can drink water while wearing aligners. For other beverages, it is usually best to remove them.

  • What should I do after eating before putting aligners back in?

    • We recommend brushing and flossing after meals whenever possible before reinserting your aligners. If you are out, rinse with water and brush as soon as you can.

  • What happens after I finish treatment?

    • After your final aligner, most patients need a retainer to help maintain their results. We will review retainer options and a wear schedule at the end of treatment. The cost of retainers is included in your pretreatment estimate.

  • What if I lose an aligner or fall behind?

    • If you lose an aligner or things do not seem to be tracking properly, contact our office. Depending on where you are in treatment, we may recommend wearing your previous aligner longer, moving forward, or ordering a replacement.
